ZTE to build Mauritania WiMax network

ZTE has reached an exclusive contract to build Mauritania's first mobile WiMax commercial network.

The contract for the 2.5GHz network is from Chinguitel, a telecom carrier under Expresso Telecom Group (ETG), and ZTE will provide core network equipment, wireless access devices and various communication terminals for indoor and outdoor use.

"ZTE is privileged to closely collaborate with ETG in developing the first ever and highly reliable WiMax commercial network in Africa," said Xu Shengfei, chief representative of ZTE Mauritania. "ZTE is committed to providing our expertise and solutions to further expand more strategic partnerships in Africa."

Mauritania has a complicated geographical landscape with a total land area of more than 1 million square kilometers, facing the Sahara desert in the east and the Atlantic Ocean in the west. With such complicated geography, it becomes highly important for telecom operators to establish a stable and efficient WiMax network, Shengfei explained.

"Chinguitel is confident that ZTE can provide the African population with the most effective wireless and highly advanced communications platform to enjoy access of various wireless services," said Elamir, CEO of Chinguitel.
