The management of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) announced on Monday the appointment of Kevin Caruso, an American telecommunications guru, as the new CEO and managing director of Nigerian Telecommunications (NITEL).
"We are excited to have Kevin join us. This is a man that has a track record of success, remarked Tom Iseghohi, NITEL's newly appointed chairman. "He has exhibited extraordinary talent in telecommunications management. We are certain that Kevin Caruso's proven expertise will reposition NITEL in readiness for sale to new investors."
The appointment of a renowned telecommunications transformation expert is in line with Transcorp's commitment to turning NITEL around prior to its impending sale, Transcorp officials explained.
Caruso has extensive strategic planning, marketing and sales experience with incumbent carriers, start-up competitors and wireless and traditional wire-line businesses, affirmed Adedayo Ojo, head of corporate relations at Transcorp.
Caruso has already begun his appointment, Ojo said, and brings with him over 26 years of international industry experience, including work in the developing markets of Eastern Europe, India, Saudi Arabia and Haiti. His most recent position was as an executive with AT&T in the U.S.
